Re-Imagining Vocational Education (Suggestions)

“Today-Education is seen as the best investment for the Tomorrow-Economy”

Undoubtedly, the best way to get a good return is, by parallelising the Vocational Education with today’s education system.A Country whose 52% population is below 30 years of age group, has only a 10% skill trained workforce. The NEP-2020 understood this element and included the Vocational Education, in the mainstream Education System.

The suggestions: that suits the challenges

Vocational education was infamous in many educational institutions, but integrating it with the Main-Stream Education System brought a lot of challenges in front of us.

The challenges by integrating these two aspects can be seen in two parts:

(a)Challenges during Implementation, and

(b)Challenges during the process

Hence, I framed the Suggestions parallel to the Challenges.

Challenges During Implementation

(a)The need for Infrastructural Development

In the NEP-2020, gov decided to rose the expenditure on education up to 6% of its GDP.

In a broad view, it is the expenditure that the developed countries (having similar education policies as NEP-2020), are spending in maintains and running its existing infrastructure. On the ground level observation, we find this expenditure very less to build new infrastructures. And without an absolute infrastructural development, Vocational Education will not be fruitful.

SUGGESTION:

We can get the solution by utilizing the resources and by distributing the responsibilities. Like CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility),  We can introduce CER (Corporate Educational Responsibility) by encouraging the corporate world and by providing them a space in our educational system. Constitutionally Education is the subject of Central and State but Socially, it is a subject of Society. On the other hand, their step-in into the Educational System will strengthen the Vocational Dimension of Education.

(b) Risk of increase in Child Labor:

The introduction of Vocational Education, from an early age, will make the children a low- skill-enabled-being for the low skilled job. And it may increase the risk of Child labor.

SUGGESTION:

We must work to spread awareness among the population, about the child labour law and set and the strong parameters to prevent the breaching of the law. We must take concern full steps to deal with these upcoming circumstances. As it will turn them into short-term resources.

(c) The concentric structural uniformity of the System in a very planned manner:

The Structure not only for the smooth functioning of the education system but also to link the education system to the Economy of the Country for the overall development of the National-interest is way important. The Structure that will create a Link between the Education and Economy, is way more important.

SUGGESTION:

The structure that will link the education to the economy, is a content, which will determine the quality of the system. The movement of the trained Vocational Students towards the organised sector and the increase in the MSME, should be determined while structuring the method of implementation. Which will give a fluctuation-free upward move to the economy.

Challenges during the process

(a)Chances of Dropouts:

Once the Children from backward classes with low-income will become skill-enabled, their chances of School or College Dropout will increase. As they will look for the sources of income. It will increase the number of short-term human resources and will cut the Higher Education GER of the country. Already we are striving to achieve the Higher GER Goal. Situations like this will reduce the quality of people’s life.

SUGGESTION:

Only this issue is enough to create a havoc in the entire Education System. We need a well regulated plan to get rid from the issue like this.

The workshop for the skilled students will sharp their efficiency and the incentive from the workshop will reduce their need for money, for the students from backward classes. For this, we need a good organised-sector network and good cooperation with the corporate sectors. Which will bring the projects and incentives for the Workshops? The need for this structure is more in the rural areas than the urban areas.

b. Where does the end meet:

Is NEP-2020, sufficient enough to produce the employment? What if, after getting a well quality education, our students will not get job or they will not be able to compete the globalised world?

SUGGESTION:

It is very important to understand that the Education System of any country is successful if its end meets positively with the economy of the Country. Because Education today is seen as the investment for tomorrow. Hence, there must be a better regulation of the Educational-Stream that will merge it into the Economical Growth of the nation and will prepare our students as a better competitor in this Globalized world.

We must ensure that the Vocational training we are including in our Education System, will be the need of the World-Economy.
